Nice introduction of Maria Joao Pires before a concert of her student Julien Liebeer. Interesting what Maria say’s about technique. Don’t get triggered about this: if you don’t have time to watch the video, read what Silvia Pavani says about what she could have meant.
“I think that when Maria says “technique doesn’t exist” she is saying that in order to conquer the instrument you have to find a way. This way will be constantly changing so you cannot call this process a technique. I don’t think she means you don’t have to sweat over a piece, but the approach should always be custom made to the difficulty of the moment.”
